WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PHYSIOTHERAPY AND ATHLETIC THERAPY?
The basic difference between the two professions is in the training and the scope of practice. The Athletic Therapist does specific training in the area of assessment and rehab of orthopaedic conditions (muscles bones and joints). They augment that training with emergency care for on field work, and exercise physiology. The physiotherapist has a general scope of practice in their formal education, including orthopaedics, cardio-respiratory, burn patients, pediatrics, geriatrics, strokes, and neurological diseases. Typically, a physiotherapist will take continuing education courses to expand on an area of interest once they graduate.
